Mensa Foundation Scholarships

The Mensa Foundation is the eleemosynary arm of American Mensa. Each year, it awards many college scholarships, based on brief essays submitted by college-student applicants.

San Diego Mensa (SDM) participates in the Mensa Foundation scholarship program by:

  • encouraging scholarship applications from college students who live in the SDM area (San Diego and Imperial counties); and
  • providing members to judge the essays on two weekends (generally on Saturday afternoons):
    • on the first weekend: the essays of all applicants from the SDM area; and
    • on the second weekend, perhaps a month later: the essays of applicants from across Region 9 (Southwest USA) which have been deemed particularly meritorious by judges from other local groups within the region.

If you want to enter, then click here to access the downloadable form, fill it out, attach your essay, and mail it in.

If you know of a promising college student who lives in the SDM area, or of a college or university which serves such students and which has a sensible financial-aid/scholarship office, then feel free to make a copy (or several) of the entry form and send it (and perhaps a link to this webpage) to the appropriate people.

Even if the student lives outside the SDM area, the local Mensa group very probably participates in this scholarship program. Click here to see whether this is the case.
