Getting Plugged In

It might seem that getting plugging in to an organization of smart people, in San Diego, California, would be difficult. Actually, it's not. Come to our:

or just get some advice.

Party!

Every month, on the Third Friday (well, sometimes on the next-day Saturday), we have a "Newcomers and Oldtimers" party at some member's home. You newcomers show up at 7:00 PM, and—for you—it's free! (Oldtimers pay a small door charge to cover the cost of chips and dips.) Our Membership Services Officer explains how things work, and answers questions, for thirty minutes. At 7:30, the oldtimers start to drift in. By 11:00, pretty much everybody has gone home.

The next morning, you'll rummage through your papers from the night before and discover that you've acquired a bunch of names (and maybe even some phone numbers and e-mail and snail-mail addresses), together with a bunch of notes to jog your memory as to who is interested in what. You very probably won't need much more than a name. American Mensa has an On-Line Membership Directory  (updated every night) of all members, including members of San Diego Mensa. To access this directory, all you'll need is:

and both pieces of information are in the "Welcome to American Mensa—here's your membership card" letter that you just got.

SIGs

Hmmm. You're not so interested in something which is so focused on newcomers. Not a problem; check out one of our many Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

Newsletter

Or maybe you are not interested in doing business face-to-face at all, whether with newcomers or with oldtimers. No problem! You now have a American Mensa membership number, and a password to go with it. Check out our on-line newsletter. Much good information is contained therein.

Surfing the Web

Don't throw away that new membership card, nor the letter which came with it! That letter has your membership number and your on-line password. You'll need both of them in order to get into:

E-mail and/or Chat

We offer a number of e-mail lists. Some of them are sponsored by San Diego Mensa, some aren't. And we welcome new e-mail lists! Click and enjoy!

On-Line Directory

So, you've met that interesting fellow-Mensan, and you remember his/her name, but not his/her address, phone number or e-mail. Don't worry: American Mensa has an On-Line Membership Directory  (updated every night) of all members, including members of San Diego Mensa. To access this directory, all you'll need is:

and both pieces of information are in the "Welcome to American Mensa—here's your membership card" letter that you got last March.

Advice

The best advice to you is that which was given to our 2004-2005 President, when he first joined up, in 1988, in Orange County Mensa: "For six months, show up for everything. During those six months, nobody will know who you are. After those six months—and not after five months and not after seven months—everybody will be your friend." And that advice is so right!
